Michel Makes a Basic Mistake
I was assisting a friend with a routine oil change one morning, thinking it would be a quick and simple 30-minute task. However, things took an unexpected turn. As I completed the oil draining, replaced the filter, and poured in the fresh oil, I reached for the oil fill cap. Just as I was about to screw it on, I noticed a shiny object slipping into the oil fill hole on the valve cover. My heart sank when I realized I had inadvertently left the foil seal from the oil bottle inside the cap.
Despite having performed numerous oil changes in the past, I couldn’t believe the oversight. I stared at the foil through the small oil fill hole and attempted several times to retrieve it, but each effort only caused it to fall deeper into the cylinder head. Reluctantly, I concluded that the only solution was to remove the valve cover. I purchased a new valve cover gasket, took off the valve cover on my friend’s car, and successfully retrieved the debris. The reassembly process took several hours, teaching me a valuable lesson: always dispose of trash in the appropriate place!

Cody’s 1996 Mazda Miata
This is my 1996 Mazda Miata. I bought it because it was a deal I couldn’t pass up. Basically a near time attack ready car that I’ve so far only done brakes and oil changes on all from parts avatar using Castrol oils! I’ve always loved Miatas, and when the opportunity came up to buy one I jumped on it. It has a built and cammed 1.6L, 1.8 LSD, 1.8 brakes, Hard Dog roll bar, Sparco seats, Blackbird Fabworx adjustable spoiler, front splitter and air dam, and some cooling mods to help. It’s a riot. Mods?
A complete reshell is in the works, I found some Willwood brakes to put onto the new car and I’m swapping all the good bits over to a red 1990 car. Unfortunately the orange one is totally rotten and twisted. But it’s spirit will live on.
