Here’s Why You Should Align Your Mirrors Correctly
Good visibility while driving is paramount to roadway safety. Have you ever faced issues while driving when you can’t see the rear and side views properly despite having the car mirrors? This problem mainly occurs because of the improper alignment of car mirrors. The main concern while adjusting your mirrors is to eliminate the blind spots. With the enhancement of technology, the adjustment of mirrors became easy in most vehicles. The proper alignment of the mirrors reduces the chances of collisions as you can clearly see adjacent lanes as well as the rear view. Apart from this, it also helps you park your vehicle properly.

1 How To Properly Align The Side View Mirror Or ORVM (Outside Rear View Mirror)?
Barring some of the vehicles which are accompanied by expensive blind-spot detection technology, all vehicles have only mirrors to cover all the blind spots. Whether it is manually adjustable or electrically powered mirrors, the basic procedure of setting these up remains the same. Following are the steps to align the side-view mirror correctly –
- Take the driving seat
- Lean as left as you can, and adjust the left ORVM so that the road behind is visible at least two-third in the mirror
- Get back into normal driving position to realize the edges of the car are slightly visible and a full view of the road is seen in the mirror
- Similarly, lean on to your right so that your head almost touches the window. Adjust the right ORVM so that the road behind you is visible at least two-third in the mirror
- Now you are good to go
2 How To Properly Align The Rear-View Mirror Or IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror)?
This mirror is intended to provide a clear view of the lane behind you. Adjust it in a way so that the entire rear window is visible from the driver’s seat without needing to move your head. If you are 6 feet or taller, you can adjust it upside down too to eliminate the blind spot created because of the height.
Following these safety measures, before you go for a ride, will make your trip safe and reduce the chances of accidents.
